Looks like Sen.Mar Roxas “padyak” ads are effective in making people notice him. Or maybe because of his crusade against Legacy owner Celso de los Angeles whom he accused of swindling thousands of plan holders. Or it could be the “Korina Sanchez” factor.

Mr. PadyakWhatever it is, the latest survey of Pulse Asia showed Roxas’ rating improving by five percent while that other presidential aspirants either slightly declined or remained the same, except for Sen. Loren Legarda, whose numbers dipped by five percent.

In the survey on presidential preference conducted May 4 to 17, 2009, Roxas rating went up to 13 percent from eight percent in the survey conducted February 2 to 15, 2009.

But Roxas still trails Vice-President Noli L. de Castro (18%), Senator
Francis G. Escudero (17%), former President Joseph Estrada (15%), and Senator Manuel B.
Villar, Jr. (14%).

2010 Election: Padyak MAR, Padyak!

This clever ad campaign featuring the erstwhile “Mr. Palengke” – Sen. Manuel Araneta (MAR) Roxas II – as the driver of a padyak (manually-powered tricycle), got me chuckling the first time I saw it on TV. On the surface, the ad could raise the eyebrows of many, as it is unusual for the scion of one of the richest and politically-influential families in the country to drive a padyak (sikad in Ilonggo).

MAR could be the last person in Roxas City or the whole of Western Visayas to drive a sikad/padyak, but then, he pulled it off, primarily because of his ordinary looks – the image that endeared him to the masses in his Mr. Palengke days. Undeniably, MAR driving a padyak/sikad strikes a sentimental note among the innately romantic Filipinos. And in these aspects, the ad is already a success. MAR’s rivals for the May 2010 presidential election should now expect him to chase the leaders at the top of the surveys.
